Enter the Silence, New Worship from Reflect Worship

A friend called me up a few years ago. He was distraught. He wanted to reconnect with God and didn’t know how. He felt his sins had taken him so far from God. He asked me for help.

I had just read something in the Bible that I knew was perfect for him. It was exactly what he needed and he told me so. “You should write a song about it”, he said. I told him that I would. That very night most of the song was written. I entitled the song Enter the Silence because this is the advice Jeremiah gives us when we need to take care of business with God:

“…The Lord is good to those who depend on him,
to those who search for him.
So it is good to wait quietly
for salvation from the Lord.
And it is good for people to submit at an early age
to the yoke of his discipline:
Let them sit alone in silence…” (Lamentations 3:25-27 NLT)

This Scripture is from Lamentations three. As you can probably guess from the title of the book in which it was found, it is not a warm fuzzy Scripture. But sadly, oftentimes neither is life, especially when we are suffering the weight and devastation of our sins… as was the case in this horrifying book of the Bible.

But in spite of the discipline, which the Bible agrees is not so pleasant at the time, God gives us hope. In fact, it is his discipline that is a sign that he loves us and accepts us as his children. How crazy is that in light of what his discipline sometimes entails… I mean, this is the book of Lamentations!

Jeremiah is lamenting the murderous rampage of his people by the Babylonians, babies wacked against rocks, pregnant woman cut open, woman being raped, the king forced to watch his sons killed and then have his eyes gouged out, mens wives and daughters being taken as sex slaves by Babylonian officers.

It was horrific.

I guess the reason I say all this is that even God’s saints are not spared suffering either. Of course the Israelites mentioned in Lamentations were suffering for many years of grievous sins. They had abandoned God (who is Love) and were guilty of horrible idolatry. They had been worshipping demons, sacrificing babies, and engaging in vile sexual perversion, etc… They were reaping what they had sown. Just like we often do as well.

But what about innocent Christians today who are getting their heads chopped off by ISIS and then their decapitated corpses nailed to crosses? What about the Christian women being raped publicly as they worshiped Jesus? (Article on this here).

What About Christian Persecution Today?

I just watched a film with my wife called Furious Love. In this film Darren Wilson goes to and explores the darkest areas of the world to see if God’s love is any match for the darkness the enemy has to offer.

One story he covers is of a region in India were zealous Hindus are massacring Christians. One surviving girl whose family was slaughtered said, “Why is this happening to us? What did we do? But the Bible says we are blessed for suffering for the Name of Jesus.”

He also interviews Daniel who had just taken a trip to war-torn Congo. The Christians there are heavily persecuted. There are hardly any women who have not been raped. Daniel had to fight back the intense fear that nearly had him vomiting at the thought of being caught by the rebels.

He tells a story that was told him of the rebels randomly killing two men on a bus. One woman who was holding a baby starts to lose it because one of the men was her brother. The rebels then take her baby and bash it against the bus until it is dead then shoot the woman.

Jesus is all that these Christians have left. Daniel recorded the sounds of them worshiping the Lord with all their heart and it was beautiful!

God tells us in his word that we, as Christ followers, are “counted as sheep to be slaughtered”, but that in spite of that and all the raping and murder and baby bashing and persecution – in spite of everything the devil will throw at us – nothing can separate us from the love of God. (Please Read Romans 8) This is supposed to mean something to you. Sadly, our choice to remain in sin will rob us of having this mean anything.

I have experienced a small taste of the infinite intensity of God’s love. I know that it makes all the difference. It gives us hope beyond all the hell that surrounds us and torments us. Our suffering is drowned in perfect love.

This is not cheep. This kind of hellish persecution and suffering are a reality for believers all over the world.

God also tells us in his Word that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that shall be revealed to us. (Rom 8:18)

All the madness. All the pain, suffering and anguish the devil can heap on us is not worth comparing with experiencing the love of Jesus. Has his love captured your heart? Have you let it? Invite it in now! Invite Jesus to reveal his love for you even now!

And to think that some of us still engage in taking the bait of the enemy. The sin he so easily ensnares us with. We know that sin wages war on love and that to engage in sin is to be complicit to the enemy who steals, kills, and destroys. We must repent. We must be holy (which means to be fully surrendered). We must remain loyal to love. God will give us the grace we need to do it.

At the outset of every day please pray, “Father God, I ask for and receive the grace I need to live an abundant life of love in Jesus for your glory. Thank you.”

Lamentations three points us beyond the suffering and reminds us of a God who can wipe away every tear and restore the hope and sunshine back into a devastated and despairing soul. Hope springs up in Jeremiah when he remembers the LORD and his faithfulness. God can and will “make everything sad come untrue” as one poet has said:

“Is everything sad going to come untrue?”

—Sam Gamgee to Gandalf, The Lord of the Rings

“[Some mortals] say of some temporal suffering, “No future bliss can make up for it,” not knowing that Heaven, once attained, will work backwards and turn even that agony into a glory.”

—C. S. Lewis, The Great Divorce, chapter 9.

everything sad coming untrue

Here is Lamentations 3 in its context. Please read prayerfully. It doesn’t hide the fact that the darkness is very dark, the pain and consequences of sin are very dire. Our song Enter the Silence adapts its lyrics from this chapter:

I am the one who has seen the afflictions
that come from the rod of the Lord’s anger.
2 He has led me into darkness,
shutting out all light.
3 He has turned his hand against me
again and again, all day long.
4 He has made my skin and flesh grow old.
He has broken my bones.
5 He has besieged and surrounded me
with anguish and distress.
6 He has buried me in a dark place,
like those long dead.
7 He has walled me in, and I cannot escape.
He has bound me in heavy chains.
8 And though I cry and shout,
he has shut out my prayers.
9 He has blocked my way with a high stone wall;
he has made my road crooked.
10 He has hidden like a bear or a lion,
waiting to attack me.
11 He has dragged me off the path and torn me in pieces,
leaving me helpless and devastated.
12 He has drawn his bow
and made me the target for his arrows.
He shot his arrows
deep into my heart.
14 My own people laugh at me.
All day long they sing their mocking songs.
15 He has filled me with bitterness
and given me a bitter cup of sorrow to drink.
16 He has made me chew on gravel.
He has rolled me in the dust.
17 Peace has been stripped away,
and I have forgotten what prosperity is.
18 I cry out, “My splendor is gone!
Everything I had hoped for from the Lord is lost!”
19 The thought of my suffering and homelessness
is bitter beyond words.
20 I will never forget this awful time,
as I grieve over my loss.
21 Yet I still dare to hope
when I remember this:
22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
His mercies never cease.
23 Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in him!”
25 The Lord is good to those who depend on him,
to those who search for him.
26 So it is good to wait quietly
for salvation from the Lord.
27 And it is good for people to submit at an early age
to the yoke of his discipline:
Let them sit alone in silence

beneath the Lord’s demands.
29 Let them lie face down in the dust,
for there may be hope at last.
30 Let them turn the other cheek to those who strike them
and accept the insults of their enemies.
31 For no one is abandoned
by the Lord forever.
32 Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion
because of the greatness of his unfailing love.

33 For he does not enjoy hurting people
or causing them sorrow.
34 If people crush underfoot
all the prisoners of the land,
35 if they deprive others of their rights
in defiance of the Most High,
36 if they twist justice in the courts—
doesn’t the Lord see all these things?
37 Who can command things to happen
without the Lord’s permission?
38 Does not the Most High
send both calamity and good?
39 Then why should we, mere humans, complain
when we are punished for our sins?
40 Instead, let us test and examine our ways.
Let us turn back to the Lord.

41 Let us lift our hearts and hands
to God in heaven and say,
42 “We have sinned and rebelled,
and you have not forgiven us.
“You have engulfed us with your anger, chased us down,
and slaughtered us without mercy.
44 You have hidden yourself in a cloud
so our prayers cannot reach you.
45 You have discarded us as refuse and garbage
among the nations.
46 “All our enemies
have spoken out against us.
47 We are filled with fear,
for we are trapped, devastated, and ruined.”
48 Tears stream from my eyes
because of the destruction of my people!
49 My tears flow endlessly;
they will not stop
50 until the Lord looks down
from heaven and sees.
51 My heart is breaking
over the fate of all the women of Jerusalem.
52 My enemies, whom I have never harmed,
hunted me down like a bird.
53 They threw me into a pit
and dropped stones on me.
54 The water rose over my head,
and I cried out, “This is the end!”
55 But I called on your name, Lord,
from deep within the pit.
56 You heard me when I cried, “Listen to my pleading!
Hear my cry for help!”
57 Yes, you came when I called;
you told me, “Do not fear.”
58 Lord, you are my lawyer! Plead my case!
For you have redeemed my life.
59 You have seen the wrong they have done to me, Lord.
Be my judge, and prove me right.
60 You have seen the vengeful plots
my enemies have laid against me.
61 Lord, you have heard the vile names they call me.
You know all about the plans they have made.
62 My enemies whisper and mutter
as they plot against me all day long.
63 Look at them! Whether they sit or stand,
I am the object of their mocking songs.
64 Pay them back, Lord,
for all the evil they have done.
65 Give them hard and stubborn hearts,
and then let your curse fall on them!
66 Chase them down in your anger,
destroying them beneath the Lord’s heavens.

Adventures in God (John G. Lake)

“A new light dawned in our souls. The church had diligently taught us that the days of miracles had passed; and believing this, eight members of the family had been permitted to die. But, now, with the light of truth flashing in our hearts, we saw that as a lie, no doubt invented by the devil and diligently heralded as truth by the church, thus robbing mankind of its rightful inheritance through the blood of Jesus…”

First an introduction to John G Lake:

John wrote this after praying with great frustration for his dying wife. He threw his Bible down of a coffee table and it opened to this:

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38)

John writes:

“Like a flash from the blue, these words pierced my heart: Oppressed of the devil! So, God was not the author of sickness! And the people whom Jesus healed had not been made sick by God!”

Then he “read the words of Jesus in Luke 13 16: “Ought not this woman . . . whom SATAN HATH B0UND, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond?” Once again Jesus attributed sickness to the devil. What a faith sprang up in my heart! What a flame of knowledge concerning the Word of God and the ministry of Jesus went over my soul! I saw as never before why Jesus healed the sick: He was doing the will of His Father; and in doing His father’s will, He was destroying the works of the devil. Hebrews 2 14.”

After John read the above Scripture, he and friends prayed with faith for his dying wife. She was miraculously healed as the power of God came upon her. She got up and said, “Praise God! I am healed!”

So began John G Lakes healing ministry. People heard of their story and flocked to have him pray for them too! God kept increasing his faith and the many strange unusual miracles. =)

I just read his public domain book I found online, Adventures in God by John G Lake. You can read it and download it HERE off my own website! (you can also have a robotic voiced man read it on youtube HERE)

If you are anything like me this book will captivate you right from the start and you won’t be able to stop until you are done. Consider sharing this with someone you think will be interested!

Who is hungry for more of God? Paul encourages us to earnestly desire spiritual gifts. Healing and miracles and miraculously speaking other languages are part of this gift. (You’ll be amazed at some of the miracles God does in John’s life!) We must be holy if we are to experience any of it however. You must repent of your sins! Receive God’s forgiveness and walk in purity. Being holy means to be ALL his! Wholly surrendered! The Holy Spirit takes care of the rest! Seek the Lord… before it is too late. (I have been often reminded of Jesus parable of the ten virgins!) The more you say no or not now, the more you say “yes” to the enemy. What will it be?

seekthelordwhilehemaybefound

“Seek the LORD while you can find him.
Call on him now while he is near.
Let the wicked change their ways
and banish the very thought of doing wrong.
Let them turn to the LORD that he may have mercy on them.
Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.” Isaiah 55:6-7 NLT

What kind of Monster do you think God is?

I woke up praying,”Lord Jesus, fill me with the Holy Spirit.”

I’ve been praying this prayer for over a decade and I know Jesus is and has been answering this prayer. This is a prayer that makes him really happy to hear. I started praying this on a fairly regular basis since I read the following from Luke 11 years ago:

“Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

2 Jesus said, “This is how you should pray:

“Father, may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
3 Give us each day the food we need,
4 and forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation.”

5 Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, 6 ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ 7 And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ 8 But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.

9 “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

11 “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? 12 Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! 13 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

Notice how it ends? He is telling us the best thing to ask for and seek after… the best gift of all… is His Presence in the Holy Spirit!

Now, do you think for a moment that if one of his children asks for the Holy Spirit that the Lord Jesus gives him an imposter spirit? A false Holy Spirit? A demon? Can you imagine God sitting back on his throne drink in hand laughing to himself, “Ha ha got him that time. He really trusts us, doesn’t he? Isn’t that so dumb? What an idiot! We’ll teach him a lesson.”

What kind of a monster do you think God is?

No, the Good Shepherd does not feed his lambs to the wolves. Again, can you imagine Jesus saying to you, his sheep, “You annoyed me today.” “Come here wolf and teach this one a lesson!” As he holds you down and lets the wolf gnaw on your leg for a while.

Yet, this is the very attitude I see in some “believers” that I meet. I have heard them say things like, “Having kids is scary. If they don’t accept Christ right away then it would be a blessing if they died before the age of accountability.”

Ridiculous! How could this kind of thought even enter our minds? It seems that some “believers” are bound in fear instead of delighting in the simple pure devotion and childlike trust that Jesus encourages and examples for us. He wants to set us ALL free from ALL our fears and teach us how to live in ‘his perfect love that casts out all fear’.

Perfect Love casts out all fear

Believers need not ever be afraid of our Good Shepherd.

By the way: “Being afraid” differs from what the Bible teaches us about the “fear of the Lord” – which means “to have Reverent Trust”! Listen to what Jesus says here:

“Dear friends, don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that. 5 But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he’s the one to fear.

6 “What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. 7 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

8 “I tell you the truth, everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, the Son of Man will also acknowledge in the presence of God’s angels. 9 But anyone who denies me here on earth will be denied before God’s angels. 10 Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.” Luke 12 NLT

Jesus is right here with you now to deal with ALL that fear in your heart. As the Bible says, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.”

Listen to this how this passage begins and how the Lord deals with our irrational fears:

And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. 14 Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 All who confess that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. 16 We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 19 We love each other because he loved us first.

20 If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? 21 And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their Christian brothers and sisters.” (1 John 4 NLT)

Here is our brand new song based out of the Lord’s prayer quoted above:

My story and what this song means to me:

Well, it was shortly after I had learned this song that I had a dream themed around the songs idea. It is a song about a haunting. In my dream there was this woman who was seduced by an evil spirit that wanted to live in and through her. All she had to do was ritually offer herself to the spirit and stab herself. I was made aware that it was a vampire spirit and that this spirit had attached itself to me. (I had been very tired for a couple months and the existential angst had grown quite a bit. This revelation explains it. Something from the spirit realm was sucking my energy.)

I awoke to the Lord’s Presence very strong with me. He asked if I would pray the spirit of the vampire away. I prayed something like what Smeagol said to Gollum, “Go away and never come back… in Jesus name.”

The Holy Spirit then asked me if I would surrender fully to him. Why would I hesitate? I mean, think about it.

Jesus created me by himself for himself. Isn’t it right and make complete sense for the thing which was made to offer itself to it’s maker? Besides, God is love… so, I “get to” surrender to love. How awesome is that?

“Yes, I surrender completely to you!”

The LORD’s Presence was so powerful yet so very gentle. There was nothing between us and I knew it. I was completely loved and accepted. The only way I can describe it was that I felt brave in his love. I could face the world when I am submitted to him.

That was where this lyric from the bridge came from: “You make me brave just to know that you’re here now with me”. That’s what this version is about. Jesus will never leave us or forsake us. This is all the grace and strength we need to face anything and overcome all of life’s obstacles. You can get over that addiction. You can heal from that heartache or grief. There is hope to carry on… because Love itself is here with you now. One of God’s names is “I AM with you”. That may seem like a stretch for you to accept. But search it out yourself and you will discover it is true.

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 NLT

No_Longer_SlavesDid you ever have a “splinter in your mind” about something that you see but can’t quite explain with any satisfaction? To borrow some Morpheus (Matrix) language…

What I know I can’t explain, but I feel it. I’ve felt it for a long time… I don’t know what it is, but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought me to this post.
